In winter 22/23, InnoNative’s Patrick Shannon partnered up with filmmaker Sean Stiller to direct a short feature on Berry Wijdeven for Canadian Geographic. We followed Berry through a day in his life producing micro-greens and bean-to-bar chocolate locally on Haida Gwaii to help address food insecurity during the pandemic.

Vancity Credit Union hired InnoNative to produce a series of short social media videos that tell the story of Vancity’s first remote branch in Alert Bay, BC in partnership with the ‘Namgis Nation. The video series also featured the local Cranmer family who have been bringing their culture to the forefront through their shop and gallery Culture Shock.

Vancity Credit Union commissioned InnoNative to produce a short film featuring the Working Group on Indigenous Food Sovereignty - an Indigenous-led organization that’s supporting initiatives and communities across BC in developing local food sustainability and sovereignty. This was filmed in East Vancouver at the Strathcona gardens and along the Shuswap communities in BC’s interior.

The Raven Collective, an Indigenous arts & culture organization in Northern BC brought InnoNative on board to document the creation of a powerful theatrical performance written by late Nisga’a playwright Larry Guno. InnoNative produced a cutdown version of the play, plus a 30 minute documentary telling the story of the play and its creation while going back stage into the action.

Exceptionally talented Dené artist Catherine Blackburn reached out to film a two-part video series on her 2020 art piece called “Unsettle” which was a collaboration with her niece Melanie LeBlanc. InnoNative produced an artist profile video that explains her practice and piece; in addition to an artistic vibe video featuring her collaboration in movement to play during gallery installations.

The Haida Gwaii Museum commissioned a video series called Hlk’yak’ii: To Start a Fire. This series played in an ongoing exhibition at the museum on display and showcases Haida food producers and harvesters from across the Islands - sharing process and meaning behind work being done to reconnect Haida people with their lands and culture through healthy eating and ways of living.

The Industry Training Authority (ITA) commissioned InnoNative to produce a short film that tells the story of their collaboration with the Nuxalk Nation to train and certify community members as red seal carpenters. This film went on-location in Bella Coola to film a half dozen interviews to tell this story.
